Now widowed, Mrs Mahinda says his husband collapsed as he moved to a cooler place for a little rest after lining up to vote from wee hours of the day.
Family members say that Mr Atindo had been in good health despite having earlier complained of chest complications.
His son told the media that the news about the death of his father reached him through friends as they waited for completion of the proceeds of the exercise away from the polling station.
The body of Mr Atindo was taken to Ahero Sub-county Hospital Mortuary where it is awaiting postmortem.
