Four people have perished in a grisly road accident involving a lorry and three vehicles along the Nyeri-Nyahururu highway.
Three people died on the spot and the other, an old man died as people tried to rescue him from the mangled wreck where he was trapped in.
Confirming the accident Nyeri OCPD Muinde Kioko said the driver of the lorry No. KBQ 014P ISUZU Mr Joseph Kinyanjui was driving from Mweiga when he lost control of his vehicle, left his proper lane and collided with a salon car KAJ 785Z.
The salon car had one occupant that died on the spot.
The OCPD established that on hitting the salon car, the canter also rammed a Toyota Corolla KAU 558M with a driver and two passengers.

He said that the Toyota Land cruiser was hit on the front and the driver managed to escape the gruesome accident.
The lorry was ferrying livestock feeds at the time of the accident. Its occupants escaped unhurt.
“I was overtaking the salon car when I came head on with another small vehicle that was coming from Nyeri,” said the Lorry driver.
Joseph Karani, a witness at the scene, told the Standard that the lorry was speeding when the accident occurred.
The incident caused terrible traffic jam on the busy highway as travellers stopped to see the horrific scene.At the scene, personal effects soaked in blood were littered all over as traffic police moved in to manage the traffic snarl-up.
Locals said that the area is a marked black spot established that it has claimed many lives.
The driver of the lorry has been arrested for careless driving and intoxication at the time of accident.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Nyeri hospital morgue.
