The strategy employed by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) through the Mkenya Mtrue video to sensitise taxpayers to file their tax returns is laudable. It not only reminds us to file our tax returns within the stipulated time but also promotes the spirit of patriotism.
Unlike in the past when KRA’s efforts to remind taxpayers to file their tax returns were confined to public notices in the print media, the taxman is now employing more appealing ways to convince the public to play their patriotic role of paying taxes and filing their returns.
The onus is, therefore, on all Kenyans to file their tax returns in good time to avoid the hefty penalties pegged on late submission.
The exercise is now less painstaking, thanks to the iTax system, which allows online submission of returns. It takes seconds to file a nil return and a few minutes to file a normal return. Yvonne Makau, Eldoret.
