Elgeyo Marakwet county Independent candidate eyeing the governor’s seat, Moses Kiplagat Changwony has accused governor Alex Tolgos for allegedly dividing Elgeyo Marakwet communities and terming him a ‘tribalist’.

Changwony pointed a red finger on the sitting governor who is also a Jubilee candidate saying he is spearheading division among the two communities in Elgeyo Marakwet.

He pointed out looming nepotism in the hiring of county workers by the government of Alex Tolgos.

The former Sasini Limited Group Managing director said that the series of meetings with leaders from the Keiyo side of Elgeyo Marakwet has nothing to do with dividing Keiyo and Marakwet as claimed by some leaders in the county.

Changwony emphasised that the meetings target to enhance equity in political seat sharing, which was their big concern immediately after the Jubilee party nominations, where all the top county leadership was nominated from the Marakwet side.

Speaking after he was cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Changwony also refuted claims from his counterparts that he chose his running mate Mr. Lukas Chepkitony based on tribal lineage.

The independent candidate Moses Changwony and the Jubilee candidate Alex Tolgos have been seen to wrap shoulders amid stiff competition on the highly contested seat.

Incumbent Alex Tolgos addressed journalists, saying he was not pleased with the series of meetings some political leaders from Keiyo held.

Meanwhile, their counterparts led by independent gubernatorial candidate Anthony Chelimo said that there is the need for all the candidates to adopt peaceful campaigns in a bid to unite all the communities in the county.

Elgeyo Marakwet County has two main communities of Keiyo and Marakwet with other two minority groups of Kiptani based in Keiyo North sub-county and Sengwer in Marakwet West sub-counties.
