Kenyans are going through a very tough economic period only comparable to 2002 when the Narc Government took over power from the then ruling party Kanu. The economic growth then was at its lowest in the country’s history. The National Economic Survey placed it at 2 per cent.
To many economic pundits, this was the straw that broke the back of the independence party. The cost of living was very high, pushing prices of basic commodities through the roof while joblessness had hit the 50 per cent mark. Mega corruption had almost become a way of life.
Life was literally unbearable for a majority of citizens. Every citizen was helpless and hoped somebody would remedy the situation.
The Government failed to step in, making a worse situation catastrophic. This time round, the Government must not fail again. Our people are pleading and bleeding. They are crying out for swift action from those tasked with managing the economy. Prices of basic commodities such as maize flour must be reduced to affordable levels.
