Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has come out categorically and cleared the air about Sh40 billion allegedly given to his county government by the national Government.
On Monday President Uhuru Kenyatta had asked the Mombasa Governor to explain to the residents of Mombasa what he had done with that amount of money given to him instead of questioning the national Government.
Joho said that it was not true that he received the stated amount of Sh40 billion instead he only received 16.39 billion.
“It has come to my attention, as widely reported in the media outlets, statements attributed to his H.E. The President of Kenya, to the effect of Mombasa County Government the beneficiary of the collective of Sh40 billion in a national disbursement since the onset of devolution.Contrary to what was reported, this is is to confirm that the county of Government of Mombasa received a total equitable share of Sh16,396,501,522,” read the letter
Joho in his letter which was addressed to the cabinet secretary of finance Mr. Henry Rotich read that the finance ministry still owes him Sh23.6 billion to make the amount of money given to Mombasa county come to Sh40 billion as stated by the President.
“I would like to humbly request verification and clarification of the above amount. I further request for the immediate disbursement of the balance of the said Sh40 billion which is Sh23, 603, 498, 478,” the letter further read.
According to him, his county government received Sh4.2 billion in 2013/2014 fiscal year, Sh5.2 billion in 2015/2016 fiscal year and Sh6.7 billion in 2017 financial year.
Meanwhile, Joho claims that his life is in danger. He further called for ‘global interrogation’ of the President recent utterances.
