The new National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada) has revealed that students between the age of 13 and 15 years present the most critical period for students in secondary schools to initiate alcohol and drug abuse.

Following the wake of rising indiscipline cases in schools, most notably the frequent burning of schools and bullying of junior students it has been revealed that this might be due drag and substance abuse.

It has been discovered that there are several ways through which drugs and alcohol get their ways into schools.

First and foremost it has been discovered that students are brought alcohol and other drugs during their school visits. The drug dealers find it easy to access the students during these periods.

It was also noted that there are some specifically identified students whose main work is to peddle the drugs to other students at a given commission.

It was further noted that alcohol and these other drugs get to schools during morning and evening preps when most teachers are not in schools.

The student colludes with the school guards to sneak in the drugs. The guards are bribed to let the students in with those drugs.

Also, it has been discovered that some drug peddlers take advantage of school games and entertainments such as music festivals to bring to schools drugs.

They are informed by some of the students and teachers who are the beneficiary of the same.

Drugs also get a chance to get into schools through school meetings. Some students carry those drugs from wherever they come from and sell or give them to their fellow colleagues.

Some subordinate staff and teachers have been accused of acting as middle men in this drug menace in schools.

Lastly, it has also been discovered that during weekends students get the drugs from outsiders who hang around the fences.

There is a need for supervision and inspection of students for drugs in school.Of late there has been no strict supervisions and inspections to create an environment in schools.
