Nandi county politics doesn't demand so much assertion as to why Henry Kosgey is the man to beat in the gubernatorial race. The veteran politician tossed the wrong coin in 2013, and thus was defeated for one reason only: being the ODM chairman.
It shall be remembered that during last election's eve, ICC related emotions were still raw and fresh in the hearts of many in the Great Rift Valley. That, combined with Mau eviction painted Raila and ODM as the cynical monsters subject to defeat and humiliation by all means.
As a matter of fact, the Rift Valley were unwilling to support Uhuru bearing in mind the hot contest that saw Kibaki sworn in at night. Support for Uhuru remained vague until one Isaac Ruto rallied behind William his namesake.
While the Rift affirmed that water never flows upstream, Isaac reiterated it was necessary to pump as a matter of convenience. Without Isaac, Rift Valley vote would have remained scattered.
That is why the very first political assignment for William aimed at gaining dominion over the whole Valley was to volatilize his friend from the south. Sheer politics.
Remember the slogan "achicha iwendi kityo" which translates to "No you are going alone ? It graced the streets of Eldoret for a number of days before a truce was secured.
That is how supporting anyone from the mountain was met with so much revulsion. Then what followed was the emphasis on Ruto to focus on nothing less than the presidency. The rest my friends remains politics well played.
The later marked the beginning of fighting the Hague miasma tied around Agwambo's neck. So, that is why Henry Kosgey lost in the last general election.
Now let me show you the canines in the critter's ingress. Despite running for senate, Henry without haste traversed the country side by side with Raila only to dedicate three final weeks to the election for his Nandi tour.
On his campaign trail, you would see how much following he marshaled; none has ever done that in the History of Nandi.
Vehicles lined up bumper to bumper stretching from Nabkoi road junction to Himaki ( And that is not a lie ). Entire Nandi loved Kosgey except for some parts of Nandi Hills constituency where drunk youth came out in large numbers to boo the veteran politician.
Everywhere else, women came out to sing and cheer up Arap KapMoee'k. Elderly men garbed him in leadership regalia whereas youth lined up their motorbikes and vehicles to grant his a heroic welcome tucked with chants and songs.
But it was too late !! The party was malodorous. Were it not for the party, Henry was winning that seat. Let us not forget how he grabbed ODM nomination from Retired Maj.Gen Augustine Cheruiyot at the eleventh hour.
So how about now that he is in the "right" party? Those who think Henry lost for any other reason apart from being in the wrong party can meanwhile wet their hair for a shave.
Remember this Henry Kosgey has been in government for as long as some voters weren't born yet. Talk about experience and potential in winning elections.
Unlike perishables like Stephen Tarus, Kosgey still has a special place in the hearts of Nandis’ politically. He has no reverse gear, Kiprono has his eyes on the prize.
This man is experienced than any other contestant politically. He will unleash one tactic after another and by the time people wake up to reality; he will have pocketed the Jubilee ticket.
Meanwhile, we remain cautious and faithful behind the voice of reason. We pray that he considers retiring honorably and give chance to able young men like Senator Stephen Sang just as Nandis’ have elected his son and as the other son might be elected as well.
