Bomet governor Isaac Rutto has denied allegations that he has a firearm following claims by doctors’ union officials that he drew a gun on them on Wednesday at a local hotel.
Governor Rutto categorically said he has never been licensed to own a gun and dismissed the claims as baseless and out to portray him as a dangerous individual.
“I would like to challenge those who say I have a gun to show evidence of the issuing authority that licensed me to carry such a weapon with me.” He posed.
On Wednesday morning Kenya medical Practitioners and Dentist Union (KPMDU) officials including the union’s Secretary General Ouma Olunga, Chairman Dr. Samuel Oroko and South Rift branch Secretary General Davji Attela and other officials including medical practitioners from Bomet were attacked by organized goons numbering over 30 at Fair Hills Hotel at the presence of Governor Rutto who later said he had gone to the hotel to meet Narok West MP Mr. Patrick Ntutu concerning skirmishes affecting parts of Narok County which borders Bomet County.
Further reports indicate that the doctor’s union officials were followed from Longisa by the hooligans who eventually cornered them while holding their meeting at the hotel.

Dr. Olunga insisted that the hooligans’ action will not intimidate or discourage them from pressing on with their endevour to convince Bomet medical practitioners from joining in the national strike that has left public all over the country shut.
“We are holding this strike with an aim of improving the livelihoods of all medical practitioners in the country and for what happened to us at Fair Hills the governor should be held responsible.” Dr. Olunga said on phone from Narok after they fled from the Hotel.
Two female KPMDU officials from Bomet County were left with torn clothes after the ordeal.
