It's now five years since the crisis in Syria began. It has been a painful experience for the Syrians. The crisis has claimed close to a half a million lives of innocent citizens. It is the worst human crisis of this century so far.
The rebels are fighting to overthrow President Bashar Al- Assad from power. There is no sign that Assad is ready to leave or be ousted from power anytime soon. The rebels still have the determination to dislodge him from power. If the status quo continues, the innocent citizens trapped in the areas under bombardment by the two fighting forces will continue to suffer. The destruction of Syria especially Aleppo will continue. The beauty of Syria, full of the ancient buildings is gone because of war and greedy for power.
The status has been made worse by the infiltration of foreign nations. The United States of America and its allies is supporting the rebels, Russia, and its allies are supporting the government of Assad. It’s dicey.
The United Nations Organizations has proven itself a toothless bulldog in this scenario. It has done nothing to stop the warring parties from committing atrocities. It only comes to condemn the atrocities when committed.
People who should be commended for their good work are the aid groups. These groups including; the Red Cross, Red Crescent, and the Mercy Corps have sacrificed themselves to assist the Syrian citizens caught in this menace. They have worked tirelessly to rescue people trapped in besieged areas and give humanitarian aid to those rescued. They have done all this despite the opposition and the danger that they face.May God help the people of Syria and Syria.
