Since time immemorial ladies have always been attracted to a man who had is s**t together. That successful hunter had women salivating for the piece of meat; the champion wrestler had the best women vying for his attention (case in point Okonkwo) and the warriors, the brave warriors who weren’t afraid to cut people’s head off and hung them in their huts like a president’s portrait. But then that was then. Gone is the culture, in with modernism, which I doubt because we are embracing someone’s culture. That’s an unending argument, besides the fact that we’ve come too far to look back.
The modern times has presented a moral dilemma to African societies. From dressing, mannerism and recently the rise of sponsors [I envision a day in the future where kids will be told of ‘the sponsor era, with the same gusto as the Victorian era]. We would love to castigate it, terming it a vice, but in the end, it’s just like a trade-and there are perfect market conditions of demand and supply if my business teacher taught me right.
Ladies who engage with sponsors are nothing but prostitutes, except they can accept payment in installments. Campus girls are the ones who keep the sponsor engine oiled and perfect for the road. I mean they are beautiful, and have time on their hands and probably broke as church mice. My interaction with ladies who have sponsors made me conclude that the craze borders on nothing but stupidity. Here are my reasons for the conclusion.
Time and again, we’ve been told that women are their own worst enemies or best, whichever side of the republic you come from. A friend finds a sponsor and she’s jealous as hell. She goes ahead and steals the sponsor from her friend. She doesn’t mind sharing. Even when she’s in a stable relationship, where she has been introduced to the family of the man or has even made partial payments for the dowry. She’s jealous of the place she’s been taken to, the heels she’s been bought. And more importantly her friend’s happiness. Women are just jealous of everything and before they know it they are walking around with STD pills in the clutches.
It’s this jealousy that a lady will go for an extra mile; just to be better than her friend. If her friend is being offered 30k, she will accept no less than 60k. Their conversations will be like, ‘imagine Jamo offered me 40k, he is so disgusting’ and whoever is listening will reply, ‘girlfie, you’re better than that.’

Ladies who roll with sponsors have this notion that believe beauty withers. As such they must utilise their beauty before it withers. I don’t know if they plan on neglecting themselves when they hit their thirties. They are scared that in ten years’ time they’ll lose their marketability. I mean men will always be on the lookout for the next pretty young thing.
Everyone in Kenya seemingly wants the easy way out. The ultimate Kenyan dream is to make more from less, and by doing less. I think this is the genesis of rampant corruption in that we’ve witnessed lately. Young men have taken to sports betting and the ladies have taken the sponsors, the owners of the gambling sites and the politicians.
