Bungoma County tops 2G and 3G internet penetration. This is according to Communications Authority of Kenya Director Francis Wangusi. He was speaking during the official launch of Bungoma County ICT Consumer Forum, Kikao Kikuu, to discuss ICT connectivity Today and Beyond.

"Currently 2G penetration is at 97.2% while 3G penetration is at 95.2%," he said.

He further added that TV penetration is still low at 35.5%. He said that 54 public secondary schools in Bungoma County are set to receive broadband communication, a project that targeting 800 public secondary schools across the country.

"These schools were chosen on competitive basis," he said.

The schools set to receive broadband communication include Cardinal Otunga Girls, Friends School Kamusinga, Moi Girls Kamusinga, Namachanja High School, Chesamisi High School, Friends School Luanda, Bungoma High School, Bungoma Baptist among others.

"Bungoma County is third to receive the highest slot in this project" he said.

His sentiments were echoed by Bungoma County Ken Lusaka who noted that ICT was in line with devolution as provided for in 2010 constitution. He further said Bungoma County has digitalized some of the services for instance Bank SMS services where residents can report their complaints.

"We have also automated our revenue collection system since March and we have registered 30% increase in revenue collection" he said.

He added that the County Government will work with national government to take advantage of ICT. The forum brought together Mobile phone service providers, ICT Industry players, Consumer Organizations, Bungoma Business Community and Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAS), Academic Institutions and Non-State actors.
