War on graft should begin at the top

Mega corruption in Kenya is perpetuated by the high and mighty in both the private and public sectors, but the latter is leading the way in perpetuating the vice.

In most cases, the two sectors collude to fleece taxpayers. High-ranking public servants in the civil service and State corporations are the architects of grand corruption.

These personalities control public resources, which they abuse for personal gain. Therefore, to tame the haemorrhage of public resources, the anti-graft efforts should be directed at the top.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and other anti-graft agencies seem to be more focused on petty crimes while the mega looters of public resources are let off the hook.

Until and unless the top public officers are prosecuted and sentenced, the fight against graft will remain a mirage.
