The government has given those with illegal fire arms a two-month amnesty to surrender them to the authorities.
County Commissioner Anne Gakuria (pictured) said there were over 50,000 unlicensed fire arms in the hands of civilians which were used for crime.
Speaking during Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kitale, Gakuria said those in possession of such weapons have until December to surrender.
“We are asking those who have unlicensed fire arms to surrender them. Failure to heed the call will attract another course of action,” she said, and cautioned politicians against inciting the public as the country heads to the elections.
