Nairobi Governor Evans Odhiambo Kidero’s declaration to vie for presidency in the 2022 general election is both bold and refreshing considering his credential as a manager of credible caliber.
Mr. Kidero made the declaration while talking at a function to raise funds for women groups affiliated to deputy president William Ruto’s wife JOYWO organization in Nairobi.
In his declaration Mr. Kidero pointed out that Kenyans should choose leaders who are going to change their lives and not those who hide behind tribal allegiance for their own benefit.
"Soon I will be done with my two terms as stipulated in the law; the only seat remaining is that of the country's top leadership." A confident Mr. Kidero was quoted in a local media.
The fact that Mr. Kidero joins a long list of possible presidents in 2022 is not by accident but more of the need to serve Kenyans.
Despite facing numerous challenges in his illustrious career in management and politics Mr. Kidero offers a fresh option if one is seeking a leader who can deliver.
Born in Majengo as the oldest child in a family of 7, Mr. Kidero attended Mangu High School where he first portrayed leadership by becoming the Head Boy or head prefect.
He graduated from the University of Nairobi in 1983 with a degree in Pharmacy and went on to obtain a Master’s in Business Administration at the Kenya’s United States International University in 1990.
Mr. Kidero was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Mumias Sugar Company for eight years before resigning from that position in 2012 to pursue a career in politics which culminated to him becoming the first governor of Nairobi County 2013 general elections.
Mr. Kidero was briefly ousted as Nairobi Governor, following a petition by Ferdinand Waititu, who ran against him in the Election.
Being the champion that he is in beating odds Mr. Kidero was later reinstated by the Supreme Court following an appeal that overturned the decision of the Court of Appeal to oust him on the elections irregularities.
