On Monday, members of the Bomet County Assembly unanimously removed its leader of majority Mr. Josphat Kirui following an emergency seating to vote on his ouster.
Majority of the members of the Assembly who are from United Republican Party voted out Mr. Kirui, who is Ndaraweta ward MCA in Bomet Central constituency, in pursuant of standing order 18 of the County Assembly.
His removal from the office following party’s parliamentary group meeting preceded by a petition to the United Republican Party whip Mr. David Rotich by Longisa ward MCA Mr. Stephen Chang’morik.
The petitioner had written to the party whip to convene the meeting for both elected and nominated URP party MCAs.
The meeting’s agenda was to deliberate on the state of the party officials in the county, to review the performance and the conduct of the leader of majority with a view to initiating his immediate removal among other party issues.

Mr. Kirui was voted out of office by 26 members of the county assembly out of 29 present at the Monday meeting.
The MCAs who supported the ouster of Mr. Kirui accused the leader of majority allegedly of lack of mutual working relations and communication between the county’s Executive and the Assembly.
Mr. Ng’eno in his support of the petition said the leader of majority will meanwhile briefly hold the office until the election of his successor on 10th August 2016.
However, the ousted leader of majority could not be reached for comment as to what exactly triggered his removal, though it is believed to be his open difference in opinion on party and leadership issues with the Executive.
Another ouster that could see the Assembly’s deputy speaker out of office is also brewing with Rongena ward MCA Mr. Malel Kirui having tabled a notice of motion for the removal of the house deputy speaker Mrs. Joyce Korir.
Mr. Malel, the mover of the motion cites incompetence, cross misconduct and use of abusive language against the speaker and other members of the Assembly by the deputy speaker; as well as being unable to unite the house on important matters when she is in charge of house proceedings.
Mr. Geoffrey Kipng’etich Korir, the Bomet county Assembly speaker has said he was aware of the notice of motion that had been tabled to discuss the deputy speaker.
