The channel at Likoni ferry is just pathetic, no regime has been able to do much on this, prove me wrong or right, those who use this channel knows it better. They simply make it by the mercies of God. Have you ever heard incidences of vehicle cruising beyond the borders of the confined ferry? The results are tragic to mention. If you have never been at the waiting bay, especially the one occupied by the gents, you will realize that none of them deserve the title "gents" it’s an accord they lest deserve; but again not to be so hard on men, it’s never their wish, sometimes they just lack the patience of waiting for so many hours at the stuffy bay.
What is making it impossible to construct a bridge at this section? You are right to think that am not being reasonable enough, that the all idea is expensive and not practical and if Kenya has even enough funds.
Kenya has the financial muscle, never be cheated, we have dozens of engineers graduating every year rooming around jobless and hopeless yet we need bridges at Likoni. Our major setback is unending series of corruption deals, everyone wants to eat on a silver plate, everyone wants to be favored, but on what grounds? We can’t explain, everyone wants the easy way out, make easy cash, but northing observable, after all “pesa si yaa…” you will be told if you raise that eyebrows ,“mi ni hustler” (which I usually take as an insult against real hustlers).
Those who do not have want something hence we end up creating a network of corrupt official dealers, procurement officers, security personnel, contractors. I mean we are just corrupt for any development soon. Sometimes I wish that government official will not usher themselves in those ferries using their motor cades, and instead scramble with the rest of the citizens, as they too struggle for space and fresh air, and at list have a feeling of how it is to be tossed up and down just to get access to during those rush hours.
Wishful thinking that will never come true, all the same, the situation at Likoni ferry is a harrowing experience that people leaving beyond the borders of Mombasa County have to bear with. The situation has forced this area to experience sluggish growth in terms of economic development, despite life being affordable, the place is greatly shunned.

Traffic to be disrupted on Mombasa Road for one month
Plans have been underway to construct, a bridge that will connect Mombasa and Kwale County, unfortunately that has been a story to be passed from generation to generation. I happened to come across an article that had indicated plans were on the advance stage to construct cable cars across the channel to ease congestions normally experience at pick hours, cables cars!!
Really! what we need at this section is a permanent solution not an immediate way out, Kenya has a good record on poor maintenance on all its public facilities, with cable cars traversing across a deep sea I think our safety as commuters will total be compromised. A bridge is one permanent solution to this menace, with billions that we lose in major scandals that have rock this country, we are in a good position to construct a state of the art bridge that will stun the entire region and offer a long lasting solution to this, imagine the tremendous development that will come as a result of such an achievement.
