He has stood out as one exceptional leader from the most marginalized group. With many critics and possibly haters, Duale has managed to deliver and be seen to have achieved something considerable for his people.
Late last month, the president led the Jubilee government on a tour to the most marginalized region in Kenya in what was seen as a gesture from the jubilee brigade that the region that overwhelmingly voted for the government is not forgotten. Despite the fact that there were brutal and constant terror attacks in the region-with little or limited support from the political class, the people showed that they have not lost hope in the government of the day.
Standing out in this tour was the township member of parliament who has been on the receiving end whenever North Eastern is mentioned. Duale, however, being an MP for a single constituency has not rebuked any attacks and has shown solidarity with the people of the larger North Eastern. At one point he promised a presidential tour that will bring about goodies to the people from roads, hospitals, schools and connection to the national grid- which have so far come to pass.
The president launched Mwangaza Mtaani which was not just a normal project, to be precise; it was the first time since independence for this part of the country to be connected to the national grid. Major roads were also commissioned or either launched for construction by the president and his deputy. The president also commissioned the first ever tarmac road in Wajir County since independence and also visited and launched construction projects in Garissa University College.
All said this has proven that the Majority leader’s position in the National government has been of benefit for the region something that his critics will rather never want to hear. It is important that we appreciate and acknowledge the efforts that the government and our leaders are putting to ensure that there is equal share of resources country wide. It is enough to say that Duale lived to his promise and delivered for his people however much he could, which makes him the undisputable king of the North.
