The Wagalla Massacre is regarded as the worst human violation in Kenya’s history to be done by Kenya’s soldiers on its own people. Girls and women were raped, children orphaned, and an estimated 5000 lives lost.

His Excellency the President recently visited the North Eastern region and he didn’t miss to talk about the issue. He bluntly told the residents to forget and move on. Thus I beg to disagree with this phrase. He exonerated his deputy and himself from the atrocities and said they shouldn’t be held responsible for the same.

The Mau Mau fighting took place way back before 1963 when British Prime Minister David Cameron wasn’t yet born. However, the fighters were recently compensated by Cameron’s administration. So it becomes illogical for our president to tell Kenyans that his government shouldn’t be held responsible as far as Wagalla Massacre is concerned.

The forget and move on phrase won’t help this country to resolve the historical injustices. What Kenya needs is the full implementation of the TJRC report instead of it gathering dust in the state house shelves.

These victims need justice but forgetting and moving on won’t solve a thing. We need solutions and resolutions to the injustices. How can we (they) forget and move when some of the alleged masterminds are still serving in the current administration.

Forgetting and moving on has become a way of dodging responsibilities and as such, a short cut for “solving” pertinent issues. It’s not healthy for our country. We will move on but one time we will remember and this will come to haunt as a nation.

Let the TJRC report be implemented in its fullest otherwise we are sitting on a time bomb.
