Tomorrow, Wednesday 27th April will be a landmark in Kenya. The National Assembly will vote on the 2/3 Gender Bill which is before the house.
The bill is in support of Article 81 (b) of the constitution which explicitly states that “not more than two-thirds of the members of elective public bodies shall be of the same gender.” Passing the bill would ensure that both men and women have an opportunity to fully participate in the leadership and Development of Kenya.
On behalf of the women of Kenya, Rosa Buyu, an ODM official, has appealed to the members of the National Assembly, both male and female, “regardless of their party affiliation to support and vote for the bill”.
