The IEBC in the recent past has proved to be incompetent in conducting free, fair, credible and transparent elections. Most general elections and by-elections have always been marred with so many electoral malpractices. These were witnessed by several complaints like bribing of voters during elections and when they just concluded.
These claims in most cases have always landed on deaf ears since nothing has been done to avert any future occurrence of the same. IEBC took a very long time to give the opposition feedback on the Okoa Kenya referendum. Whenever they went to their offices no official was present to give them feedback. In this particular case they lose the mark of transparency and fairness.
In the just concluded voter registration, there was a low voter turnout in most counties because most Kenyans were not motivated to register. They felt that even if they vote during the elections, their votes would not count. They no longer have faith in the ability of the IEBC to conducting a free and fair election.
The commission should consist of new commissioners who should not be appointed by the government. The vacancy should be advertised across all media platforms ranging from print to electronic media. This will enable Kenyans who have the capacity to lead to apply for those positions and those shortlisted should go through thorough vetting and only the qualified be selected.
There are so many Kenyans who if given the opportunity to spearhead IEBC will not compromise their integrity and will do their best to ensure transparency and fairness prevails.

Disbandment of the IEBC will have so many benefits; people will be motivated to register as voters in future as they will believe that the new commissioners will do better, numerous complaints over unfairness during the election will reduce and this will greatly prevent any future cases of post-election violence.
