Cannibalism suspect denies killing and eating his neighbor in Nakuru

A handyman accused of dissecting the body of his neighbour in Subukia, Nakuru County, before eating it has said he has no case to answer.

Amos Kimeria, 38, who has been in custody since his arrest in June 2012, has faulted the prosecution's case while seeking to be vindicated over murder charges.

Mr Kimeria does not object to being in possession of human flesh at a sheep's pen where he was a handyman.

However, he said the prosecution had not produced evidence in court to prove that he is the one who killed his neighbour, Samuel Epolisi Lodoket.

"There is no direct evidence provided by the prosecution or someone who saw the accused kill the deceased," reads part of the submissions.

Kimeria is accused of killing his neighbour and dissecting his body on the night of June 26, 2012 before eating his heart, liver, private parts and intestines then dumping the body.

The defence lawyers further stated that no property belonging to Kimeria was found on the scene of the alleged crime or blood in his belongings.

"It is not clear who assaulted the deceased," Kimeria's submission's further reads. The State had lined up several witnesses including relatives of the deceased who described gory pictures of the scene where the body was found dumped.

Witnesses recalled the gory scene of the murder, where Lodoket's body was found dismembered with his chest slit, intestines removed and some body parts missing, and how the missing body parts were traced to the Kimeria's house.

The court was told that villagers later went to Kimeria's house where they found human flesh including a liver and private parts in a sufuria and also recovered a polythene bag containing the slain man's intestines from a goat shed.

Justice Maureen Odero is set to hear the highlighting of the submissions next week, on February 4, after which she will rule on whether Kimeria has a case or not.
