The year 2015 has left a sour taste in the mouths of the teachers of Kenya.
Starting from January 2015, teachers have been embroiled in a bitter tug of war with their employer TSC.
However, it's the conduct of the TSC that has been most worrying. The Teachers Service Commission has been most unprofessional in handling teachers. So far, the commission first did away with medical allowance of primary teachers in the name of an AON medical scheme that is non-operational.
Next they withheld September salaries for teachers causing them unlimited embarrassment. The TSC has also failed to remit third party dues in time causing further pain.
In November, the commission chopped away part of the house allowance and reintroduced it as special house allowance which makes no sense at all. In December, the commission has now chopped away the medical allowance for secondary school teachers without any explanation.

I just wonder why the TSC is acting with such impunity and unprofessionalism. The commissioners should realise that they are on the job to work for teachers and to create a conducive environment in the teaching profession. It’s not their job to antagonise and demoralise the teaching fraternity.
