I have never gambled in my life. In fact, I despised those who gambled or even have or had the idea of gambling in their minds.
Something else I despised, football hooligans. Well, I belong to the 10 or 5% of guys who are not thrilled by the world of sports and to be specific football.
In high school, I would play basketball, not even in team A but in team B, simply because I wanted to go for funkies and see girls then probably get a letter, a kiss and a tie – that stuff was super cool.
Then that was it. When I cleared high school and joined campus, I realized there is more to life than kiss the basketball coach’s forehead just to be in that bus to a girls school. Campus politics swept me off my feet and I became oblivious of anything else that goes on outside vote hunting.
I therefore became the last person you’d ask about what number Manchester United is or the captain of the boisterous Leceister City.

Then God, in his mighty ways and wisdom, did his thing of silencing noise makers, football hooligans and anointed a man who introduced Sportpesa.
For those who still believe ignorance is bliss and have not heard of sportpesa, let me explain; it’s a sports website where you bet for the team you think will win and most importantly you put your money on the bet – using Safaricom’s paybill of course.
One of the reasons I have never liked football is the noise, the endless jabber about tuliwachapa, mlituchapa, hii season mtaona, next season tutanunua Rooney etc. Folks talk as if they actually know the players, or their cousins are playing for the majuu premier leagues when they can’t even tell how old K’ogalos Olunga is.
Talk is cheap and I like wasting my energy on something lucrative. So when Sportpesa landed in our beloved country, in our nature of kindness, unity and patriotism, we embraced the website with a big hug. And because we Africans, I mean a majority of us, like using shortcuts to get rich, we stuck to the game and set camp.
The talk in the bar has since then slowed down; our TV room in campus is less noisy and chaotic now, at my kibarua place guys now eat a humble pie when the game is going on, hearts pounding, breath limited.
You’ll hear them saying a prayer, asking God to intervene and hoping their money will come back in multiples. The madness and football craze has now taken a chill pill, guys are now talking with their money as everyday some win while some lose, it’s a two way situation you can’t have it both ways.
Sportpesa has revolutionized football, now, I know something about Louis Vaan Gal, Norwich city and the likes. I can tell who’ll replace LVG in the event that he is axed, hehe.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the era of football gambling, be prepared to lose and become a slave of the same but also, be prepared to win hard cold money.
Oh, did I forget to mention that now we have Lotto which is the new gambling game in town? Wacha we will see if it’s worth writing about with time. Good luck heheh!
