It is quite unfortunate that Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery can issue orders for the arrest of a journalist who has uncovered rot in his ministry.

I think it would have been prudent for the CS to take it positively and tighten the loose ends in the ministry to forestall any future cases of graft.

Unless the country realises how deep graft has gone, it may be too late for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration to wake up-to a disillusioned and disenchanted citizenry.

Nkaissery’s claim that the security docket is sensitive and needs to be guarded is hollow. Although I agree that security matters are confidential, that does not mean we need to protect graft.

President Kenyatta has been on record admitting that there is corruption in the Office of the President and in the security docket. During the police vetting, many officers did not pass the integrity test.

In this day and age of social media, information sharing and audience needs have drastically changed. Even though Nkaissery wanted little to be reported from the precincts of Parliament, better still, the revolution of citizen journalism cannot be contained.
