Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has pulled another first. Media reports indicate he has written to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) giving them permission to access his bank accounts and assets to establish if they were acquired legally.
The governor also asked the EACC to conduct a lifestyle audit for all Machakos Government staff to rule out any corruption tendencies.
In a country reeking of graft allegations, Dr Mutua‘s move is a breath of fresh air.
The governor said during the declaration of his wealth recently, “those who have nothing to hide will have no problem declaring what they have and how they acquired it.”
These are the actions citizens expect of their leaders.
