MP warns of playing politics with ICC cases

United Republican Party (URP) MP Oscar Sudi has called on fellow politicians to stop discussing 2017 politics until Deputy President William Ruto is cleared of the charges at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The MP noted that it is not the right time for the party to forge political alliances since the deputy president is able to lead the way come election time.

He stated that the ICC issue should not be politicised and should be left out of the 2017 elections.

"We should suspend all talk about future political moves or alliances until the deputy president is free of the ICC burden," Mr Sudi said.

He added that playing politics at this time will be detrimental to the future of the Jubilee coalition.

Sudi emphasised that this was not the time to play politics, and instead, it was time for the nation needed to heal.

He called on coached witnesses to come forward and record statements on their alleged role in giving bogus evidence against ICC suspects.

Ainabkoi MP Samuel Chepkonga called on the ICC to immediately terminate cases against Ruto and Sang, noting that the confessions by Gatundu MP Moses Kuria and human rights activist Ken Wafula were testimony enough that the case was full of errors.

"Whose justice is the ICC pursuing now that those involved in coaching witnesses have come forward and revealed that they procured false witnesses to testify?" Mr Chepkonga posed.

He called on former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to reveal the contents of exhibits 19 and 19a because the former premier seemed to be aware of them.

"Raila should record a statement with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and should reveal if there is a role he played in the ICC matters," Chepkonga said.

United Democratic Party (UDP) party leader Cyrus Jirongo said there were people who would have wished for the DP to be locked up at the ICC so that their political careers can advance. Mr Jirongo pointed fingers at President Uhuru Kenyatta's inner circle.
