President Uhuru Kenyatta was speaking at the opening of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit at the UN headquarters in Gigiri this morning. These were his opening remarks as he welcomed his co-host, President Barack Obama.

In a light-hearted praise for his motherland, President Uhuru described Kenya as a hotbed of vibrant culture, spectacular natural beauty and wonderful people.

“I hope your presence here will help change the narrative of Kenya,” said President Kenyatta.

President Kenyatta asked the delegates to preach what they see in Kenya when they go back home, share their experience.

“Africa is ready and open for business,” President Kenyatta in a statement that encouraged investment in Kenya as a country.

President Uhuru’s remarks come a few days after Kenyans the world over went up in arms in reaction to a CNN statement that allegedly represented Kenya in bad taste. CNN described Kenya as a “hotbed of terror” citing repeated Al Shabaab attacks, resulting in a spirited retort by Kenyans on social media in a joint defense of their motherland.
