The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has recommended the prosecution of 84 officials on corruption claims stemming from the list handed to the President by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.
The DPP said 84 persons, in respect of 18 cases, had been approved for prosecution. In a statement, he said three files were pending determination.
"The merits of each file are being reviewed to provide an independent assessment," he said, adding where prosecution had been directed, they had enough evidence.
"Where closure has been directed, we were not satisfied with the evidence and have directed accordingly. That is our constitutional duty. It is instructive to note that on all cases, the DPP has relied on the evidence collected by the investigating party to establish whether the cases meet the required threshold to sustain a successful prosecution," he added.
Last week, DPP Keriako Tobiko cleared three Cabinet secretaries of graft allegations. He gave 12 reasons for his action regarding the files of the three officials on Wednesday.
