Ford-Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula will run for president in 2017.
This emerged yesterday during the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Elementaita, Nakuru.
Mr Wetang’ula said he will campaign across the country and urged the Luhya community to unite as they had done in the past. “It is us leaders who go different ways, but our people have always remained united,” he said. The Senate Minority Leader said if elected, his government would operate differently. He said he was certain Kenyans who believe in change would support him.
Ford-Kenya Secretary General Eseli Simiyu said the party will soon embark on a recruitment drive to enlist more members and hold elections later this year.
Dr Simiyu said Wetang’ula, who is the Bungoma Senator, has demonstrated that he has the capability to lead the country.

“His leadership abilities indicate a man fit to steer the country. We will do the groundwork in the meantime as we put things to place,” he said.
Wentang’ula’s endorsement by his party to run for the presidency follows the decision by Wiper to front its party leader and CORD co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka for the country’s top seat in the next polls.
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has said he will be vying for the seat again in 2017.
Last week, New Ford-Kenya party leader Eugene Wamalwa said he was willing to support Wetang’ula for the presidency if he goes for the top seat.
