The government has closed a private gold mine in Siaya County indefinitely after three men were buried alive in the quarry.
Acting County Commissioner Caroline Onchoka directed that workers at the site vacate as police investigate the circumstances of the Thursday night incident.
Blaming the workers for not reporting the incident on time to enable a quick response, she said the site would be opened only after safety measures have been put in place adding: "We want workers be trained in emergency response to enable them act swiftly."
On Thursday last week, in Ojalorambo village, a Form Two student at Senator Obama Kogelo Secondary, a Form Four leaver and a 56-year-old man were killed while four survived.
