Kenya: Hoteliers in the Maasai Mara have welcomed the softening of a travel advisory by the UK, saying it will boost arrivals as the peak season at the game reserve enters its homestretch.
They hoped other governments that issued travel advisories against Kenya this year will follow suit, adding they were elated that the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FOC) said there were no travel restrictions on British citizens to popular safari destinations in the country.
“Though belated, the move will boost arrivals before the end of the season early next month. Though we have been receiving tourists from UK and other countries that also issued travel advisories, the arrivals have not been impressive,” said Steve Nzuki, the secretary of the Maasai Mara Managers Forum.
The hoteliers asked the Government to step up security to boost tourism that has been in the doldrums for the last one year and spur investments in the multi-billion shilling sector.
They also welcomed the State's decision not to resume flights to West Africa.
