Legislators across the political divide have called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to terminate criminal cases facing President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto for lack of evidence.
The parliamentarians, led by Senate Majority Leader Kindiki Kithure, said the principals should be given time to fulfill their constitutional mandate bestowed upon them by Kenyans.
“We want to tell the ICC that Kenya is a sovereign country that demands respect. ICC should terminate the cases facing the President, his deputy and Joshua Sang for lack of evidence,” said Prof Kindiki.
Speaking at Dr Wachira Kiamariga Mixed Secondary School in Laikipia County, yesterday during a funds drive, the legislators, among them Dan Kazungu (Malindi), Khatib Abdallah Mwashetani (Lunga Lunga) both of Coalition for Reforms and Democracy, joined their Jubilee counterparts Wachira Karani (Laikipia West), Jimmy Angwenyi (Kitutu Chache North), Waweru Nderitu (Ndaragwa) and Bowen Kangogo (Marakwet East) in asking ICC to terminate the cases.
They faulted the ICC for summoning President Kenyatta to appear before it on October 8, saying, Fatou Bensouda, the ICC lead Prosecutor had admitted that she lacks evidence to prosecute the case.

“We want to tell the ICC to stop playing with the country’s independence and unity. The Deputy President has been appearing before the court for three years and now we see witnesses recanting evidence,” said Prof Kindiki.
He continued: “We have told the DP that he should stop going to The Hague because the Prosecutor has indicated that she does not have incriminating evidence against them,’’ he said.
At the same time, they accused the pro-referendum architects of being ‘agents of ICC out to rock the country’.
Speaking at the same event, Ruto steered clear of the ICC matter, but said there was a conspiracy to derail the Jubilee administration from fulfilling its mandate.
“Groups that opposed our election have ganged up to derail us from achieving our mandate. The conspiracy against the Jubilee administration is on. We defeated them in the past and we shall defeat them again,” said Ruto.
