Narok, Kenya: A police officer attached to the Deputy President William Ruto security detail was Friday morning found dead in a lodging in Narok town.
The officer was part of the advance team that had been dispatched from Nairobi on Thursday evening ahead of Ruto’s fund raiser for women groups in Narok County.
Police broke the door to his room after he failed to respond to calls from his colleagues and the hotel management.
"He came along other customers to book rooms. After serving him, he left the reception for his room. But today morning his colleagues, who were also booked here, and the hotel staff tried to wake him up in vain," a lodging attendant said.
He added: "That prompted us to call the police who broke the door to his room where he was found dead. He was unaccompanied."

The DP is expected to hold the fund raiser for the women groups to enable them access loans to start business enterprises in a scheme dubbed "The Table Banking" at Maasai Mara University grounds.
Narok North Police Chief Paul Letting confirmed the incident and said investigations had been launched into the incident.
