MOMBASA, KENYA: Mvita MP Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir was on Saturday overcome by emotion and wept in public while addressing constituents over the rampant insecurity in Mombasa county.
The MP who was presiding over the award of bursary to college and university students from his constituency stopped in his speech and wept while bowing his head over the podium as he spoke about the state of security and cold blood murder of innocent residents.
The MP said insecurity has become a major concern for his constituents while singling out the recent killings in Mpeketoni, Kilifi, Tana River, Likoni and Changamwe.
He told off pundits antagonising him against Mombasa governor Hassan Joho saying he is not concerned about the next general election but about improving the well being of his constituents.
“I live for the day and I live for creating a better future of our people and not for myself and my political future,” he said.

The MP took issue with county commissioner Nelson Marwa’s recent remarks linking the attacks in Likoni to ODM saying the blood of Kenyans should not be used for political gain.
In what was like reaching out to governor Joho, the MP said:
“Let us put our differences aside and start working for the people who elected us.”
During the ceremony, a total of Sh5 million from the Shariff Nassir Foundation was disbursed to 818 students from various tertiary institutions.
