Security has been beefed up in Kisumu ahead of Saturday's Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) rally.
County Commissioner Erastus Ekidor said security agents are vigilant and will combat any criminal activity that may arise.
Ekidor was deployed to the region from Kilifi County last week after former commissioner Lorna Odero was transferred to the Office of the President in Nairobi.
"We have adequate security but we are assessing our strength and if we realise that we are under stress there will be reinforcement from other places," said Ekidor.
Recently, there were reports by some Nyanza politicians that a contingent of General Service Unit officers has been deployed to the region to intimidate residents ahead of the Saba Saba rally.
