Kiambu Members of County Assembly (MCAs) portrayed their generosity when they bought foodstuff worth over Sh200,000 for the Mpeketoni attack victims.
The MCAs led by their Speaker Gathii Irungu, raised the money and did shopping of stuff including rice, maize flour, cooking oil and sanitary towels among other things.
They then ferried the items to Kenyatta International Convention Centre, Nairobi where a team is collecting donations from well wishers to later transport them to the victims in Lamu County.
The 87 MCAs called for calm and asked politicians to shun politicising the matter.
They were apprehensive that the ongoing political rallies are fueling tension. “We ask our politicians to stop engaging in war of words and instead foster unity in the country,” Karungo Thang’wa, the Ngewa Ward representative and initiative’s chairman said.
