Three killed in Eldoret church robbery

Eldoret, Kenya: Three men were killed Monday night after thugs broke into a church in Eldoret town.

Two of the three were night guards at Neno Evangelist Centre in the town and the third person was a relative to one of the guards.

It is alleged that the thugs bound the mens' hands before killing them and making away with two television sets and a sound mixer and woofer from the church office.

Rogers Nasongo who lives next to the church said he was locked in his room by the thugs at around midnight before the thugs proceeded to unleash terror.

"I heard footsteps at around 12 am and then I heard my door being locked from outside," said the shaken man.
He added that he heard the gangsters breaking the doors but he didn't hear any screams for help.

"I could not act because I was locked in my room, it's the morning guard who opened the door for me and that is when I learned of the heinous acts," Nasongo added.

Josephine Nambale who was at the scene explained that the thugs may have been targeting the cash collected during the Sunday service.

"They probably thought that the church, which is reputed for a huge congregation, had money collected during the Sunday service," she said.

A bloodied hammer and a broken spade were lying next to the three bodies and they are believed to have been the murder weapons.

Eldoret South OCPD Nicholas Maina said that it was unfortunate that the three men had been killed.

He noted that the deceased had been killed using blunt objects after they had been tied down.

"This incident must have been committed over 9 hours ago since the bodies had already developed rigor mortis," Maina stated.

The police chief called on business people dealing in second hand electronics to report any person who attempts to sell electronics that have no valid documents.

He called on the residents to volunteer information that will lead to the arrest of the suspects.
