ELDORET, KENYA: Police in Eldoret are holding six suspects who allegedly stole two government vehicles belonging to the ministry of Public Works.
The vehicles said to be in good condition had been parked at the ministry’s yard at the weekend on January this year.
According to Uasin Gishu County CID Director Isaac Musyoki, the two vehicles a pick up belonging to Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) and a Toyota Prado belonging to Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) were stolen at night between January 15 and 17.
“We were informed about the disappearance of the two government vehicles on January 18th 2014 by officers from the ministry of Public Works in the morning. They claimed that the cars were stolen during the weekend when no one was at the site,” said Musyoki.

The police accompanied by their Anti-terror counterpart mounted investigations towards the matter and later found one of the security guards signed to protect the premises missing.
“When we realised that one of the security guard had gone missing from that date, we concluded that there was something mischievous and started interrogating other guards. We managed to arrest one person following the assistance from members of the public,” he told the Standard at his office on Thursday.
