Baragoi, Kenya: One person has been killed in a fresh raid in Baragoi, Samburu County and unknown number of livestock stolen by armed bandits.

The deceased was shot in Nachola within Baragoi after unknown number of bandits, divided into two groups, attacked homesteads and drove away hundreds of livestock.

Nachola ward MCA Lawrence Lorunyei Nachola told The Standard on phone that two groups of raiders staged a morning attack and drove the livestock towards East Pokot.

Lorunyei said a man was shot dead by the suspected raiders as he attempted to recover the stolen livestock.

The MCA alleged security personnel did not help the herders recover their livestock.

He called on Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo to overhaul the security officials in Samburu County accusing them of being part of the problem.

“I would like to know what Inspector General of Police and Interior Secretary Joseph Ole Lenku thinks of the security problem residents of Baragoi endure daily,” Lorunyei posed.

Baragoi Police Boss Lanet Sili when conducted by The Standard said he was not in a position to give any details as he was leading the security team in tracking the bandits.

“I am in a hill close to the scene and that is why I can access network. I will explain everything later,” said Sili.
