Four months into the year but no signs of getting a pay rise or permanent employment. More often, an employee is likely to develop a negative attitude in the work place.
This is likely to lower productivity and creativity. Attitude can make all the difference in the work place when creating a positive result outlook. According to Mary Mwaniki, a human resource practitioner and director at Career Care, the best way to develop a positive attitude at the work place is by starting to look at your job with ‘kind eyes.’
“Take some time and write down the positive aspects of your job and your employer such as working in a media house where you have the opportunity to interact with who is who in the country,” says Ms Mwanini.
Mwaniki observes that looking at you work this way removes the negative attitude bordering on low pay— and the fact that you have not been promoted for years.
She points out that in case you have a problem at home, you should not tell everyone how difficult lyour life is.
This will make you appreciate your work more and as a result, your attitude will be noticed in the company,” she says.
Mwaniki argues that it is upon the human resource department to ensure that it charts the way in monitoring if there is a drop in a worker’s productivity and if it is related to attitude.
“It would help the company if the department concerned was able to work closely with the employees by understanding the challenges they go through and what their expectations are,” she said.
This, she argues arises from the fact that everybody wants to associate with a positive person as many would tend to frequently avoid a negative man. In majority of interviews, employers also search for a worker with a positive attitude towards life and work. Fareed Siddiqui, a renowned writer and trainer, argues that positive attitude in the work place brings lots of benefits while allowing you to fulfill your objectives successfully.
If a manager holds positive attitude, he can not only get the things done successfully, but also gain good reputation among the subordinates. “It is owing to this approach that employees develop sense of satisfaction, zeal and enthusiasm,” he says.
Positive attitude
He argues that those, who underestimate the value of positive attitude not only face disappointments but also lead themselves towards creating innumerable problems in the workplace. If you are discouraged by the developments at the workplace, instead of falling victim — Bob Rosner and Sherrie Campbell the authors of the weekly internationally syndicated Workplace 911 column advise that you look at something positive about the company. They argue that if you’re wondering, “how do I change my negative attitude,” start by observing how you communicate with coworkers. “If you practice asking useful questions, giving accolades and being gracious at work for two weeks, you’ll notice a difference in the people you work with and in your own feelings about work,” they argue.
The duo argues that negative work attitudes create a vicious cycle that can rob an organisation of energy. “If you’re famous for your awful moods and stinging commentary, try something new,” they advise.
Majority of human resource practitioner agree that keeping a positive attitude at the work place will make your life relaxed.
This involves changing of attitude and the mindset towards achieving it. Also develop a positive attitude at the work place and achieve phenomenal career growth prospects.
