Kenya: A senator allied to the Jubilee Coalition has defended President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration from allegations that it has failed to deliver to the expectations of Kenyans.

Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi said the Jubilee Coalition has made major milestones in development and improving service delivery in government institutions.

Mr Wamatangi termed those saying the Jubilee government has failed as insincere and asked them to be candid when offering criticism.

“Anyone who can wake up and say this government has failed is unfair and ill motivated. We have had projects launched to improve our infrastructure, health, food security, insecurity, education and other services,” he said.

The government, he admitted, could be behind in its development schedule. Wamatangi however blamed this on post election bitterness, including the presidential petition that delayed Uhuru’s swearing in and the unending “cooked” fights from the opposition.

Selfish agenda

The senator urged Kenyans to be tolerant and asked his fellow lawmakers within and outside government to support the Jubilee  leadership.

“The element of having MPs fighting government projects due to political difference or selfish agenda is very dangerous for our development,” he said.

He cited the Standard Gauge Railway and laptop project as some of these hit by politically instigated sabotage.

Wamatangi also asked county governments to ensure they deliver, saying devolution is one of the scales used to measure the effectiveness of Jubilee government.

“If county governments fail, Kenyans will fault the government. President Kenyatta and his government are committed towards ensuring devolution is successful and it will be unfair for the governors to fail him,” he said.
