Kisumu, Kenya: Nyanza leaders want the National Government to tackle rising insecurity in the country or transfer the security docket to county governments. The leaders were speaking at New Nyanza Provincial Hospital mortuary grounds in Kisumu County during a requiem mass for the victims of Nyakach-Kericho border clashes.
Led by Kisumu Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o, they accused the Government of failing to tackle insecurity and asked that the Constitution be amended so that county governments can take over the security docket. ‘‘It is the responsibility of any Government to protect property and the lives of its people,’’ said Opiyo Wandayi, Ugunja MP.

Calm was restored in the area after the police and local leaders convened peace meetings.

‘‘We have lived peacefully with our neighbours for many years but last month’s attacks were well planned and we know the officers who were involved,’’ claimed Aduma. He told those behind the banditry that he will not relent in championing for the rights of his people.
Bondo MP Gideon Ochanda gave the Government an ultimatum to protect people or else the community will be forced to arm themselves to protect their lives.
