Lodwar, Kenya: Police in Lodwar town have intensified a manhunt for terror gang who broke into the houses of a principal magistrate and two other senior civil servants and stole properties of unknown value in Turkana Central Sub County.

Police said the thugs carried out the thefts simultaneously on Tuesday when the owners of the houses were away from their homes.

Turkana Central OCPD Mwaura Njoroge confirmed the incident. Njoroge said he suspected the thugs broke into the officer’s residential on a day broad light when the owners were away from their homes.

The OCPD said they have launched a manhunt for the suspects. The Police commander confirmed that the thugs stole digital camera, foodstuffs and cash of unknown value from the officer’s residentials.

Police said the principal magistrate who they requested not to be named because of some legal implications over the matter was said to be on leave when the thugs broke into the house.

However the police commander said the other officers who were affected included a district transport officer in the police department David Ouko, Turkana Central senior district officer Meshack Mwangi and his Kalokol Counterpart Daudi Nyachuma lost properties of unknown value to the thugs.

The OCPD said they have identified the thugs who broke into the officer’s residential houses. He said they were trailing some three suspects in connection to the crime.

Mr.Njoroge said they have recovered a camera in the house of the suspects who escaped the police dragnet.

“We have intensified our search for the suspects. We are following up some crucial clues on their hideouts. We appeal to the members of the public to volunteer some crucial leads that will assist police to arrest the culprits”, Mwaura said.

Meanwhile security personnel in Turkana South district have launched an operation to apprehend the armed suspected who shot dead an administration police officer in Nakwamoru police posts in Turkana South Sub County.

Turkana County Administration Police (AP) Commander John Kemboi confirmed that some suspected armed locals ambushed the officer and shot him dead at a close range.

Earlier on locals had protested over the killing of one of the protesters by Police who opened live bullets on the rioters a long Lodwar-Kitale road.

The protester had blocked the road to demand the attention of the national government following an attack by Pokot bandits that left two people dead.

“A group of angry youth had vowed to take revenge on security personnel. I heard them saying they will kill one officer because police had allegedly killed their own,” said the county AP boss.
