Governor Kabogo: Senator and MP should be defending me. |
By ERIC WAINAINA
KIAMBU COUNTY: Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has accused Senator Kimani Wamatangi and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa of neglecting their responsibilities.
Mr Kabogo said since he was elected, Mr Wamatangi has not been involving himself with county affairs as required while Mr Ichung’wa has been capitalising more on political squabbles.
“He (Wamatangi) should be defending me (county) but he is never with us. He should be informed that the time of sending text messages is over and it’s now time to work,” Kabogo said. He spoke in Kikuyu town, which is Wamatangi and Ichung’wa’s backyard.
Wamatangi is associated with short-text messages such as he used to send bulk messages to the electorate during campaigns.

But Wamatangi when contacted said the allegation holds no ground saying he is a development-orientated leader.
He said as a representative of the county in the national government, he has been negotiating and ensuring resources are sent to the county and that he played a key role in ending wrangles among Kiambu leaders.
“My name speaks volumes there (Kiambu) because of the projects through my foundation since ten years ago. I fought (as the senator) and Kiambu got its entire share and we should now ask which developments have been started using the money. About being available, I go to the people not to the governor,” Wamatangi said.
Kabogo accused Ichun’gwa of involving himself in national politics and spending most of his energies fighting the county leadership instead of capitalising on the development agenda of his constituency.
“Did you elect people to be following the Deputy President to his functions across the country or to work for you? You elected him to work here not in Lamu, Kisumu or Eldoret because those areas have their leaders there or is he the parliamentary ambassador?” Kabogo posed.
Efforts to get Ichungwa for comment proved futile but at a recent function, he accused Kabogo of personalising matters of public interest.
