Bungoma, Kenya: Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula and Governor Kenneth Lusaka have expressed concerns over the plummeting education standards in the county and urged the Education ministry to address the situation.
The leaders were especially concerned over education standards in the former academic giants Friends School Kamusinga, Lugulu Girls and Kibabii Boys, warning that heads must roll to salvage the situation.
Speaking during a funds drive at St Crispins Anglican Church Cathedral in Bungoma town yesterday, Mr Lusaka said time was up for non-performing school heads.
“If we as leaders continue burying our heads in the sand in the wake of such low performances, we are simply killing the future of our children,” observed Lusaka.

The governor said for this reason the county government has organised a series of meetings and symposiums with all education stakeholders and leaders to chart the way forward.
“It’s shocking to note that all the former top schools in the county lost their spark and competitiveness immediately management changes were effected about three years ago,” he said.
Officials blamed
Lusaka also pointed out that the school principals who took over have clearly failed to maintain the good standing of the institutions in national examinations.
Mr Wetang’ula blamed the poor academic performance among schools in the county on a section of education officials who protect non-performing school heads.
“I was shocked to discover that none of our schools was among the top 20 in the country in the recently released Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education and the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examination results. What has happened to the performance in our schools,” posed Wetang’ula.
