Isiolo, Kenya: Isiolo teachers have protested the killing of their colleague by armed bandits and threatened to withdraw their services from hostile areas.
The teachers, through their union, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut), Isiolo branch, held a protest march to the Isiolo Provincial Administration headquarters following the killing of Cyrus Mugambi, the head teacher of Rap Primary School, Oldonyiro division.
The late Mugambi, who was posted to the school at the beginning of this term, was shot dead by armed men within a business premise on Tuesday night at around 8pm along with unidentified businessman.
Isiolo Knut Executive Secretary Dade Boru, joined by other officials and teachers drawn from schools in Central division, claimed locals opposed to a non-native teaching in the area shot their colleague.

The killing comes a month after the murder of another teacher at Kambi Juu estate. Unknown assailants clobbered the late Peter Thaine to death inside his house.
In 2011, a female teacher at Kilimani Primary School was shot dead by an Administration Police constable in front of her family when she went home during the 10am break time.
Knut claimed the locals had threatened non-native teachers posted to work in Oldonyiro. Mr Boru further claimed two female teachers had been raped at Oldonyiro and Kipsing in the last two years.
