Kenya: Only 17 girls managed to secure positions in top 100 list in last year’s examination despite their increase in school enrolment.
Of these, only three were ranked among the top ten candidates nationally. The top girl, Kivuva Angela Nzisa of Moi High school Kabarak, was position three nationally, while Borus Norah Chelangat of Precious Blood and Kenya High’s Biwott Brenda were placed fourth and ninth respectively.
The KCSE results released by Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi also ranked top ten students in counties. In Kisumu County, no female student featured among the top ten candidates while in Mombasa county only three girls appeared in the top ten list.
In Nairobi, male and female candidates shared the slots on an equal basis while in Baringo only one girl made the prestigious list.
