Kenya: The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) has called on the Government to speed up the constitution of a new panel to interview Teachers’ Service Commission commissioners as required by law.
Speaking in Nyamira, Knut chairman Mudzo Nzili said there was a backlog of disciplinary cases that were unresolved at TSC due to lack of a commission.
“Those responsible must move with speed and constitute the panel. Several disciplinary cases have not been attended to. They must advertise the positions so that qualified Kenyans can apply,” said Mr Nzili.
He was speaking at the home of Knut Vice Treasurer Richard Kibagendi at Manga in Kitutu Masaba at the weekend.

He defended the formation of the Public Servants Trade Union (Pusetu) arguing the move was long overdue.
Nzili noted that a majority of civil servants had for years suffered because of incompetence of Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) in handling matters affecting civil servants.
He told off Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli over claims that Pusetu was undermining the central union.
“I wish to clarify that we are not at war with Cotu. Government workers have for long suffered double taxation on allowances,” said Nzili.
He said Cotu has been sleeping on the job as members get exploited.
Nzili also appealed to Knut members in all branches to give women more chances in leadership positions.
