Kisii, Kenya: A senior chief’s mission to rescue a suspected witch in Kisii County landed him in hospital.
Caleb Okengo was mercilessly beaten up by an angry mob in Nyamondo location when he arrived at an elderly woman’s home to rescue her from irate villagers.
They accused the administrator of defending alleged evil acts performed in the area by the elderly woman.
Two Administration Police officers attached to Etago Sub-County were forced to fire several live bullets in the air to save the chief and woman from the villages’ wrath.

A villager, Joseph Momanyi, said the woman allegedly bewitched a young boy who disappeared for two days.
“The family members intensified the search only to find him numb on Friday morning at Etago market,” he said. After a full day of prayers from various church elders, the boy is said to have uttered the woman’s name, prompting the villagers to storm her homestead.
